Design Speaker Series (DSS), is a global program created by Dropbox.design to engage, inspire, and educate our team and community through a monthly lecture series. The event initially envisioned as an in person fireside chat had to quickly morph to be entirely digital in the midst of the pandemic.
Challenge
The biggest challenge with this project was the fact that it was due to launch March 2020 and everything turned virtual. What was meant to be an in person breakfast series had to now be adapted to a “zoom” format including finding ways to engage the audience virtually, create a branded space virtually and have it appeal to a design audience .
Goals
Building out an edgy, vibrant and extensible design system that translates Dropbox’s refreshed identity for this community event that is aimed at bringing together people from the design community to inspire, delight, and engage the creative community.
Process
Dropbox was in the middle of a re-brand when we decided to create an identity system that would borrow
from the old brand and the refresh at the same time. A large aspect of this identity system was to create a boutique identity that would appeal to the designer audience that it was speaking to. The modular grid allowed flexibility for different combinations for each event, and using motion and layering allowed us to introduce photography.
